EHS Coordinator - DIW

Full Time 

The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Coordinator - DIW is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental, health, and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained, prepared, and reported according to established internal and external regulation guidelines. Serving as an advisor to the field service staff to ensure technical support and compliance with applicable occupational safety and health standards.

Act as a change management champion for the organization, helping guide and direct the Delta Iron Works Business Unit to best-in-class industry EHS practices, while leading other various concurrent improvement initiatives to enhance operations and/or improve metrics.

The EHS Coordinator - DIW will work closely with both the local business unit and corporate management to ensure further development and alignment of EHS policies, standards, strategy, and execution. Directly reporting to the Plant Manager of DIW, with functional responsibility and oversight from the Corporate EHS Manager

Main Responsibilities

  • Acts as the main point of contact to both internal and external stakeholders, for all related DIW EHS information, including maintaining records on Delta Star systems, and industry standard systems such as ISNET, Avetta, etc.

  • Responsible for emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures and development of work safety standards.

  • Manages Workers' Compensation program and monitors lost-time injuries.

  • Trains employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Participates in OSHA inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.

  • Maintains current SDS sheets for all products used.

  • Prepares, maintains, and submits all necessary safety reporting requirements.

  • Prepares regulatory submittals for permits and environmental impact statements.

  • Works as a liaison between regulatory agencies and other company departments.

  • Performs complex environmental work requiring exercise of independent analysis and judgment.

  • Manages environmental activities of consulting and third-party firms, as required.

  • Advises management of the impact of proposed regulations and recommends potential compliance strategies.

  • Participates in trade associations and on various task forces to assist in the development of environmental laws and regulations.

  • Obtains operational permits and represents the company during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variance, or other environmental areas.

  • Identifies, develops, and implements strategic environmental and safety initiatives for establishing external competitive advantages.

  • Further development and enhancement of Delta Star safety policies, procedures, and Field Service EHS handbook.

  • Participates and leads continuous improvement programs, such as 5S and monthly safety meetings, as required.

  • Partner with other Delta Star EHS staff internally to collaborate and support other areas of the business as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned, such as fleet or DOT oversight.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health & Safety / Environmental; Industrial Management; Engineering; Business or a related field. Alternatively, a special combination of education, experience, and/or demonstrated accomplishments can be evaluated and accepted at the discretion of Delta Star.

  • 5+ years of experience in the EHS industry. Preferably in a construction/substation/transformer field service environment.

  • Training, knowledge, or certification in NFPA70E, OSHA 10/30, Electrical Safety Hazards, Confined Space, Confined Space Rescue, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and AED/CPR. (Trainer credentials preferred) Willingness to obtain by agreed upon timeline.

  • Knowledge and advanced understanding of DOT & DOL laws and regulations, HAZMAT, SPCC, and/or EPA guidelines/regulations.

  • CSHM, CSP and/or CHMM certifications a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

  • Ability to use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Strong leadership skills to influence results, while maintaining integrity and credibility.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with governmental agencies, trade groups and other industries.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-tasks projects concurrently.

  • Must have a positive attitude and have a willing to help in any area mentality (team player)

  • Must have proficient computer skills, e.g. data entry, Word, Excel, PowerPoint...

Other Requirements

  • Support industry events and Delta Star quarterly/annual events as required.

  • Must have a stable internet connection and cellular service at candidates' home-base to conduct normal business operations when not visiting customer sites or service centers. (Email, connect remotely to Delta Star systems through VPN, etc.)

  • Must have a clean driving record
